The Dollhouse Remodel: Featured Artist Meagan Donegan
Stumbling upon artist Meagan Donegan bohemian dollhouse project for her own daughter has completely knocked our socks off. Glass -pane windows, wood and adobe floors, ceramic sculptures, and elaborate mini-murals make up the tiny modernist dream home. We're obsessed.. and quite speechless.....we had to ask her more.
PS: What inspired this project?
MD: I started working on the dollhouse because my daughter and I have had a lot of housing transition. I wanted her to see that I had a greater vision for her than what she's experienced.
PS: What is your background as an artist?
MD: I knew I wanted to be an artist around age 5 and have drawn or painted since. I was not accepted into art school so I worked in fashion and mostly stayed with that through my twenties. When I was thirty I ended up moving to Mexico and styled for a photographer there who saw my sketchbook and asked if I wanted to show with her. The night of the exhibit a man walked in, asked me two questions about my drawings then bought every piece and walked out. I decided then I would just make my art and figure out how to do it my way.
PS: How do you balance the role of motherhood with being an artist?
MD: Letting go of expectations.
PS: Where do you draw inspiration for your designs?
MD: The natural world. I still visit books and media for reference and inspiration but more and more Im finding the best things come when I just slow down, create with my daughter and find time to go inward.
