Ma Crush Monday: Kimb Jammal: Graphic Designer and Illustrater

Meet Kimb, the adorable Brooklyn mother and creative multitasker in our first #MACRUSHMONDAY interview of 2016! The pattern, paper, and product creator and pet clothing Designer at Martha Stewart shares a few family moments with us as she answers #thesamethreequestions.

We met Kimb years ago in Brooklyn before Ma'hood and Married life. Hollie's husband actually played banjo at her wedding and sang Joe Esposito's "You're the Best" from The Karate Kid as they walked down the stairs to the wedding alter. (Kimb master-minded the most wildly creative wedding we've ever seen!) She's a mini power-house of inventive ideas, and her eye for detail is astute as can be. She brings a refreshingly sweet brand of irony to her work (anything from a hand-drawn silly card, a kooky printed kid's dress, or a custom invitation). Six years later, the Burbs-curious couple adds a teeny fellow named Grey to their flock. Scroll for more as she lets us in on some of the family fun.

1.PS: Tell us a bit what's behind your children's names:

Grey Solon, almost 2

KJ:  Honestly the name Grey was the only name my husband and I could agree on. We both felt it was a strong name and I happen to be very fond of the color. His middle name is Solon. During a phone conversation my mother mentioned a Great -Great -Grandfather Solon, who was the mayor of Gladstone, Alabama. My husband liked the name so it stuck. It wasn't until later that we found out that Solon is also the name of Xena warrior princess' son.

2.PS: Can you share a few of your local Motherhood Favorites?

KJ:  Neighborhood favorites:

Mayfield: Is like eating dinner in an Art Deco bathroom. The walls are covered in subway tiles and there are little iron ladies with their legs in the air for all of the door handles. The food is hearty and warm and you can not leave without tasting their spoon bread or experiencing their oyster happy hour.

Ample Hills:  I am not exaggerating when I say THE BEST ice cream I have ever had. The salted crack is incredibly popular. I happen to like the Snap Mallow pop, which is vanilla ice cream with rice crispies all up in it. There are a few locations but the first ever location to open is right up the street on Vanderbilt. It is a great place to bring your little one. It has a small play area in the back with an ice cream cart and also offers to hosts ice cream parties.

Baby Faves:

Grey has never been a good sleeper so I always recommend this to my friends: 8 Hour sleep. It is meditation music that lulls your baby to sleep. As a ritual I have sung "Baby Mine" from the movie Dumbo and Somewhere over the Rainbow to Grey before he goes to sleep. But after the 3rd time my voice begins to get a bit hoarse and that's when I turn to youtube for 8 Hour sleep

Baby Zara is killing it for boys fashion right now. I have such a difficult time finding clothing for Grey. I happen to like to dress him like a little adult and Baby Zara always meets the challenge. I recently got him these fox shoes.

Beauty Faves:

Rose Gold bobbie pins. I have been a big meanie to my hair and destroyed it through bleach, blow dryers and mama hormones. I have attempted to limit washing to once a week. Not only does it help with my hair health but it saves time in the morning- I usually have about 5 minutes before I am interupted by Grey. I know it sounds crazy but these bobbie pins make some messy braids look like a sleek fashionable do. And they are rose gold, which just makes me happy.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisterizer and some mascara is the one thing that makes me feel like a woman again. Tinted moisturizer is lighter and more forgiving than foundation and I can just slap some of that on and pop some mascara on my eyes and feel a little more put together.

3. PS: What commonalities of Motherhood do you reject, and on the flip-side...do you have any guilty pleasures?

KJ:  I suppose I reject the idea of having it all. The work life balance. One part of my life will always take priority and for now that is my son. So my career projector is suffering. Less freelance and more playground. Having to turn down freelance is incredibly hard. Although I have plans for the future. Some sort of shop selling stationery and gift tags we will see. There is no telling what the future might hold. My guilty pleasure is glitter!

PS: Would you mind sharing a SCRIBBLE? (a doodle, a recipe, a poem- anything!)
