We're thrilled to peek inside another Maplewood, NJ door. Writer, editor, vintage collector and seller Kat Johnson takes a moment to show us around the creative space she has made for her daughter, Ivy. Our pal and mother of two is always (effortlessly) dressed to the nines- she's the kind of girl you spot out of a crowd. Her curiosity and refined eye make for the most delightful place to play.

Lots of pieces are from a semi-secret local thrift store

The crib sheet is actually a hand-me-down John Robshaw dust ruffle from my dear friend Michelle at MILLE, the rug is World Market and the duvet is from One Kings Lane.

My mom made the crafty house picture leaning against the wall.

The prints are from the cutest Danish store, Mimi's Circus. The dresser and floral needlepoint on top are both from the Brooklyn Flea, from our Fort Greene days (sob). Everything else is thrifted.

Ivy is newly into playing dress up. I'm into it.

.... we've never actually read "The Nature Notes of an Edwardian Lady" at bedtime. Someday.

I am so not crafty,

but I made the feather mobile with cardboard, felt, glue and a twig wreath. Ivy was nine months old when I finally finished it!

What's special about Ivy's room is she has a second (also tiny) room just off her main space. This is the entry way; baskets are Eliza Gran and Senegalese Fair Trade from MILLE. 

It's pretty much never not messy at my house, even for a photo shoot!

The Zebra

 is from a consignment shop in Phoenix. It's not the kid-friendliest (it fell on Ivy's toe the other day) but I keep putting it in their rooms because it's cute!

My son, Arlo

is super stoked about Halloween. I hope he's not sick of his costume by the time it finally gets here!
