Ma Crush Monday: Jennifer Sarkilahti of Odette New York

All the jewelry magpies out there know and lust for Odette NY pieces. Inspired by organic and geometric shapes, ancient symbols, and primitive forms, designer Jennifer Sarkilahti's well-appointed label is perfection. Click for more as the brooklyn-based jeweler takes a Motherhood moment and answers #thesamethreequestions.

It's safe to say that Jennifer spearheaded a movement. The minimal and organic stylings in current trends echo really what she has been doing for years. The textural, handcrafted forms reflect her fine-arts background, and artifact-like themes of bones, arcs, arrows, and figural shapes feel like wearable storytelling. So it was no surprise that her instagram feed scrolls like a gorgeous coffee table book itself, w beautiful captures of jewelry moments, family travel, and architecture. We were thrilled she took the time to share a few of her stories.

1.PS: Tell us a bit what's behind your children's names:

Luca Sarkilahti, 22 months

J: Luca is derived from the Latin word lux meaning light. We chose it because we love how it sounds. His middle name is my last name, Sarkilahti. It’s Finnish. I wanted both of our names to be a part of his.

2.PS: Can you share a few of your Motherhood Favorites?

J: Lighting candles in the evening after Luca goes to bed. My favorites are Maine by MCMC Fragrances and Diptyque Feu de Bois.

Reading! When I can squeeze in the time. Right now I am reading Patti Smith’s M Train.

Riding the East River Ferry just for fun! Luca loves to watch as we sail under bridges or watch barges pass by.

3. PS: Would you mind sharing a SCRIBBLE? (a doodle, a recipe, a poem- anything!)

This is a Valentine’s card I made with Luca that I keep one on my desk. First we splattered paint on thick paper, folded it in half, traced his hands and cut it out. I’m not crafty but I love how it came out!
